Pledge to be A Clean Boater and Conserve Canadian Waterways

Published By: Craig Ritchie

Boating Ontario is seeking the public’s help in conserving Canada’s waterways.

Boating Ontario has qualified for a $100,000.00 Pepsi Refresh Grant that will be used to advance its acclaimed Clean Marine Program, ranked among the world’s leading environmental programs for marinas, boat dealers and marine businesses.

Boating Ontario aims to conserve Canada’s waterways for future generations by having boaters from across Canada pledge to be “clean boaters.” There is no cost associated with this – instead, boaters commit to supporting a Clean Marine Eco-Rated marina as their home port, purchasing products with the Environmental Choice Logo that are less harmful to the environment, seeking out Clean Marine Eco-Rated marinas flying the Clean Marine flag when searching for services ashore, and learning to identify exotic invading species as they are one of the greatest threats to Canadian waterways and wetlands.

This support has (so far) led to recycling 1,320,000 litres of oil, 240,000 oil filters, 3,200,000 pounds of shrink-wrap and 3,600,000 pounds of other waste across Canada.

Each person may vote once daily at  www.refresheverything.ca/cleanboater  between September 1 to October 31, 2010.
