Mobility Cup Kicks Off Under Sunny Skies
Brilliant sunshine and a sunny forecast for the week brought smiles to a large crowd of boaters as the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, cut the ribbon to open the 2009 Mobility Cup in Toronto.

Hosted at the Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club in downtown Toronto, the 2009 Mobility Cup is an international regatta for disabled sailors from across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. More than 100 participants have registered for the event, which runs from August 31 till September 4.
This year’s Mobility Cup also marks the 10th anniversary of the Disabled Sailing Association of Ontario, the sponsoring organization. The group, now Canada’s largest sailing program for persons with a disabilit, was formed in 1999 after the Mobility Cup was held in Toronto.
Mobility Cup Co-Chair, Andrew Robertson, welcomed a number of special guests for the kick-off, including Sam Sullivan, the former mayor of Vancouver who initiated the first Mobility Cup in August 1991. Additional guests included Henry Stifel, of the Christopher Reeves Foundation, Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club Commodore Barbara Jones, Nigist Sewnnet, Commodore of the Disabled Sailing Association of Ontario and Toronto Councilor Sandra Bussin.
